How to Add a Favicon to Wix

A step-by-step guide to adding a custom favicon (browser icon) to your Wix website. Covers the Wix Editor and Wix Studio, recommended sizes, file formats, and troubleshooting when your favicon won't appear.

Before you start: create your favicon

You need a favicon file before you can upload it to Wix. If you already have one, skip to the instructions below. If not, you can create one in seconds using EasyFavicon — pick an emoji, type a letter, or upload a logo, choose a background, and download a ready-to-use favicon PNG sized correctly for Wix.

Plan requirement: Custom favicons require a Wix Premium plan and a connected custom domain. Free Wix sites (with a wixsite.com URL) display the default Wix favicon and cannot be customized. You also need to publish your site before the favicon goes live.

How to add a favicon in the Wix Editor

The Wix Editor (the classic drag-and-drop builder) has a simple one-screen favicon uploader. The process takes under a minute:

  1. Go to Settings. From your Wix dashboard, click Settings in the left sidebar.
  2. Open Website settings. In the Settings panel, click Website settings.
  3. Upload your favicon. Scroll to the Favicon section and click Upload Image. Select your favicon file from your computer and click Choose File.
  4. Publish your site. Click Publish in the top-right corner. Your custom favicon is now live on your published site.

Quick path:

Settings → Website settings → Favicon → Upload Image → Choose File → Publish

⚠️ You won't see the favicon in the Editor

Wix does not display custom favicons inside the Editor or preview mode. To check your favicon, open your published site in a regular browser tab. If you just published, do a hard refresh (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + R) to bypass your browser cache.

How to add a favicon in Wix Studio

Wix Studio (the advanced editor for agencies and developers) uses a nearly identical process. The favicon setting lives in the same place:

  1. From your Wix Studio dashboard, select your site.
  2. Click Settings in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Website settings.
  4. Under Favicon, click Upload Image and select your file.
  5. Click Publish to apply the change.

Quick path (Wix Studio):

Select site → Settings → Website settings → Favicon → Upload Image → Publish

Troubleshooting: Wix favicon not showing

It's common for a new favicon to take a few minutes to appear — and sometimes it feels like it's not working at all. Here are the most common fixes, ordered by how often they solve the problem:

1. You haven't published your site

This is the #1 reason Wix favicons don't appear. Uploading the image in Settings only saves it — your favicon won't appear on your live site until you click Publish. Go back to the Editor and hit Publish, then check your site.

2. You're looking in the Editor, not the live site

Wix does not display custom favicons inside the Editor or preview mode. You must open your actual published site in a new browser tab to see your favicon. The Editor will continue to show the default Wix icon — this is expected.

3. Hard-refresh your browser

Your browser caches the old favicon and won't fetch the new one until you force it. Do a hard refresh:

4. Check your plan and domain

Custom favicons require a Premium plan and a connected custom domain. If you're on the free plan or using a wixsite.com subdomain, the favicon setting may not be available at all. Upgrade your plan and connect a domain to unlock it.

5. Check the file dimensions

Wix requires favicon dimensions to be a multiple of 48px square — such as 48×48, 96×96, 144×144, or 192×192px. If your image is not an exact multiple of 48px (e.g. 100×100 or 256×256), Wix may reject it silently. Resize your image to 192×192px and re-upload. The exception is SVG files, which bypass this rule.

6. Give it time

Even after publishing, favicon changes can take a few hours to propagate through Wix's CDN. Google can take 1–14 days to update favicons in search results. Try viewing your site in an incognito window or on a different device — you may see the new favicon there before your main browser catches up.

Making a Wix favicon from scratch

If you don't have a logo or icon ready, you have several options:
